Did you know that when the Brooklyn Bridge was constructed each of the pieces had to be small enough to be hand carried by 2 workers? My husband is an iron worker from Brooklyn and that’s what he heard anyway. In fact, every time he saw me working on this drawing he shared that tidbit. There were so many details to draw that he ended up telling me a lot… at first in earnest but after awhile it became a running joke. I tried to briefly to fact check it but I haven’t been able to verify it.

The Brooklyn Bridge
Construction of the Brooklyn Bridge began in 1867. It was the first steel suspension bridge with the longest span of any bridge at the time at 1,600 feet from tower to tower. The bridge joins Manhattan and Brooklyn over the East River. It was officially unveiled on May 24, 1883.
The pedestrian walkway above the traffic was part of the design from the beginning. It has become a staple of running routes in NYC. It’s especially great on weekends in August when the connecting streets in Manhattan are closed to vehicular traffic all the way up to Central Park. Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is also a great activity for visiting guests or whenever you want to play tourist to this beautiful city.
The Brooklyn Bridge Drawing Large Prints
According to my Procreate app this drawing has 79,973 strokes. I though I could complete it during a marathon of Marvel movies, but it was so detailed it ended up taking longer than 60 hours. So this print tends to look better when it’s bigger, because some of the details blend together on the smaller prints (like the small stickers or magnets.)
Red Bubble’s larger print options include posters, canvases, metal prints, comforters, duvet covers, and shower curtains. The graphic T-shirts and bags also take the image well.
